Newly Admitted Transfer Students

Students who wish to be considered for Honors Transfer Scholarships must submit the following documents via Academic Works beginning in March 2024:

Willis Holcombe Scholarship
Available only to graduates of Broward College, this award covers the full cost of in-state tuition and registration fees. A minimum entering cumulative grade point average of 3.5 is required.

Eduardo Padron Scholarship
Available only to graduates of Miami-Dade College, this award covers the full cost of in-state tuition and registration fees. A minimum entering cumulative grade point average of 3.5 is required.

Presidential Scholarship
Available to graduates of select * Florida community colleges, this award covers the full cost of in-state tuition and registration fees. Students who are interested in this award must submit a letter of recommendation from their community college President or designee. A minimum entering cumulative grade point average of 3.5 is required. *Applicants from Miami-Dade College and Broward College already have designated presidential full-tuition scholarships (ie. Eduardo Padron and Holcombe), and therefore are not eligible for this award.

FIU / Community College Honors Scholarship
This award provides $1,000 per semester for a maximum of four semesters. A minimum entering cumulative grade point average of 3.3 is required.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Each year, one outstanding member of PTK is awarded $2000 per year for a maximum of two years. Students who are interested in this award should submit a letter of recommendation from their PTK faculty advisor. A minimum grade point average of 3.3 is required.

Phi Theta Kappa All-Florida Academic Team Scholarship
This scholarship is available to students who have been identified as a member of the PTK All-Florida Academic Team and have been accepted into FIU and FIU’s Honors College. To be considered for this award, candidates must submit two letters of recommendation, one of which can be from a PTK advisor.

Policies Governing Honors College Scholarships


FIU/CC Honors and Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships

  1. Award is available to transfer students holding an A.A. degree from a Florida community college.
  2. Students must have completed the A.A. with an overall GPA of at least 3.3 and must have the support of his/her community college Honors Director.
  3. Recipients must be members in good standing of the FIU Honors College.
  4. Awards will begin only during the fall semester of each academic year and will not be available during the summer terms.
  5. All students (except for international students) must submit a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Processor (available from any Community College or University Financial Aid Office.)
  6. Students who without prior approval do not enroll in 15 FIU credits, cease participation in the Honors College, or do not maintain at least a 3.3 overall GPA (reviewed annually) will not receive the award and will not be eligible for future support.
  7. Any appeal of these policies must be made in writing to the College Scholarship Committee.Fall admission required for all scholarship awards.

Willis Holcombe, Eduardo Padron, Presidential, and PTK All-Florida Academic Team Scholarships

    1. Awards are available to students transferring from Florida Community Colleges
      (Holcombe: BC only; Padron: MDC only; Presidential and PTK All-Florida: any)
    2. Fall admission is required for all scholarship awards.
    3. Students must have completed the A.A. degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and must have the support of the appropriate community college Honors Director.
    4. Awards will cover the full cost of in-state tuition and the health and athletic fees.
    5. Minimum enrollment is 15 FIU credit hours per term (fall/spring only). Awards will cover a maximum of 15 credits per term.
    6. Awards will begin only during the fall term of each academic year and will not be available during summer terms.
    7. Continuation of the award is contingent upon the student’s maintaining an overall FIU GPA of at least 3.3 (reviewed annually), and earning a minimum of 30 credits per academic year.
    8. Recipients must maintain membership in the Honors College.
    9. All students (except for international students) must submit a current FAFSA (available from any Community College or University Financial Aid Office.)

    Any appeal of these policies must be made in writing to the Honors College Scholarship Committee.
